Reading The Bible Is...

Powerless to save
Do you have a Bible? Do you read it? Why? There are many reasons to read it, but if you read the Bible because you think it will give you life, you will be disappointed. In Mark 5:39 Jesus says" You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life: it is they that testify about Me;" The scriptures cannot give life; they can only point to the source of it. Jesus is the only way to eternal life! We read in Mark 14:6 "Jesus said to him, ' I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me'." The scriptures are powerless to save, your good works are powerless to save, and there is no other name except the name of Jesus by which you may be saved (Acts 4:12). For what purpose should we read scripture then? What is it useful for?

Useful for...
*Teaching, Reproof, Correction, Training in Righteous, and for Equipping
Second Timothy 3:16 says "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
*Direction Psalm 119:105 says " Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
*Conviction of sin Romans7:7
*Leading us to Christ Galatians 3:24"Therefore, the law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ , so that we may be justified by faith."
*Revealing God's character to us
*Renewing our minds Romans 12:1-2

We should read God's word to know God and be conformed to his Image. It points you to a mighty savior and proclaims the good news, that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21)! Repent and trust in Christ alone for your righteousness!
